PLUS Repayment
Repayment on the PLUS begins 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed for an academic year.
Deferment Option
A deferment will delay payments on the PLUS loan for six months after the dependent student on whose behalf the parent borrowed is not enrolled at least half-time. Deferment needs to be requested on an ANNUAL basis, and may be requested 14 days after the loan has been disbursed to the student’s account. Interest will continue to accrue on this loan during the deferment period. Therefore, we recommend that you make your interest payments during this deferment period if at all possible.
- A parent applicant can request a deferred payment option for the PLUS within the PLUS application.
- To request a deferment after the initial PLUS loan disbursement, you must contact the Student Loan Support Center at 1-800-557-7394.
As a Federal Loan, the PLUS is eligible for consolidation. Please visit the Federal Direct Consolidation Loans site for more information.
The PLUS loan can never be transferred in repayment or otherwise to anyone other than the original PLUS borrower.
