Transgender Document Change Skillshare and Support Gathering
In light of the recent election, we want to come together for support, solidarity, and action. We don't know what trans rights will be taken away under the new Republican-dominated government. Now is a critical time for trans people to legally change names and gender markers on their documents, if you can.
We will have folks available with experience navigating the various forms and requirements (e.g. state court name change; US Passport; Social Security; driver’s license; birth certificates) although we can’t guarantee they’ll know every state or federal form.
We recognize and mourn that the ability to have a legal gender marker that reflects one’s gender is a binary privilege, and also a financial one. See below for a fundraising link to raise money for legal document changes.
Bring: Your own expertise A financial donation if you are able - we will be raising funds to help support document changes
We’ll provide some laptops and a printer to use for forms as well as some light snacks.
Allies welcome, especially those who have experience navigating these kinds of documents.
Trans Relief Project is working to provide information and monetary assistance to US-based trans and GNC people looking for help with the administrative fees associated with obtaining US passports, name changes, and updating ID documents. Please consider donating, if you are able: https://transrelief.com/donate.html
