Special Event with Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music
Event Description : The Cohen Institute is proud to partner with the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music for a special event this August. This evening will celebrate Czech brothers Pavel and Hugo Haas, great artists whose lives took dramatic turns as the Bohemian Golden Age was devastated by Nazi occupation. The evening begins with a screening of Hugo Haas's 1933 comedy film, Život je pes (It's a Dog's Life). Following the movie, the Apple Hill String Quartet will perform Pavel Haas's riveting third and final quartet, written as a musical call to resist fascism. Cohen Institute Specialist Prof. Brian Crim will be the featured guest in a discussion of these artists and this time period.
