Course Selection: Choosing classes can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to do it alone. Academic advisors can help you select courses that fit your degree requirements, interests, and goals while keeping you on track toward graduation.

Withdrawing from a Course: If you are thinking about withdrawing from a course, an advisor can help you understand the process, important deadlines, and how a withdrawal may affect your academic progress. We can also discuss options and connect you with helpful resources.

Exploring and/or Changing Majors and Minors: Not sure if your current major or minor is the right fit? Advisors can help you explore academic programs, learn about career opportunities, and understand what is involved in changing your major or adding a minor.

Degree Planning: Planning ahead can make your path to graduation smoother. Advisors work with you to create a personalized academic plan, review degree requirements, and help you make informed decisions about future semesters.

Academic Support: Keene State offers many resources to help students succeed. Whether you need tutoring, study strategies, time management support, or other academic assistance, we can help connect you with the services that best meet your needs.

General Advising Questions: Have a question about college policies, academic procedures, registration, or where to find help? Our advising team is here to provide guidance and connect you with the right resources across campus.

Transfer Course Assistance: Bringing credits from another college or university? Advisors can help you understand how transfer courses apply to your degree requirements and answer questions about transfer credit evaluations and remaining graduation requirements.

College students often change their majors or explore different academic paths throughout their college journey. The most important thing is to be open to new experiences and stay curious about the world of knowledge around you. Our professional staff advisors are ready to support you in the process!

Some quick tips:

• Follow Your Passions: Think about what subjects you love and enjoy learning about. Your interests can guide you to a major you’ll genuinely enjoy.
• Know Your Strengths: Consider your talents and what you are naturally good at. Choosing a major that aligns with your skills can lead to a more rewarding college experience.
• Explore Majors: Research the different majors available. Look into our courses and the career paths they lead to.
• Try Electives: Take advantage of our elective courses to explore various subjects. It’s a great way to discover new interests.
• Consider Your Future: Think about your long-term career goals. How does each major align with your aspirations?
• Gain Experience: Participate in internships or job shadowing to get hands-on experience in potential fields of study.
• Talk to Others: Reach out to current students and alumni to learn from their experiences with different majors.
• Take Your Time: Don’t rush the decision. It’s okay to be unsure; give yourself space to explore and decide.

All students are expected to declare a major before they have earned 60 credits. Waiting longer may mean it takes more than four years to complete a degree.

Prospective transfer students and current students who would like to transfer credits from an accredited college or university to Keene State College can use our Transfer Credit Explorer to see how courses from other schools may count toward degree requirements at KSC.

By entering courses taken into the Transfer Credit Explorer, you can see what courses are currently approved for transfer credit as well as how those classes fit within your intended degree program. And if a course you have taken is not yet in the Explorer? Our advising team will research the course and email you additional information.

Please note: you will only receive credit for courses in which you earned a grade of C- or higher.

Credits earned from online providers and other non-traditional sources count toward a limit of 32 credits that may be applied to a Keene State degree. This limit includes credits earned through programs such as:

• AP
• CLEP
• DANTES
• CTE
• ACE-approved courses
• International Baccalaureate (IB)
• Cambridge programs
• Online learning providers (StraighterLine, Study.com, and Sophia Learning)

Students who are on academic probation or suspended from the college are encouraged to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor. Advisors can suggest resources and strategies to help the student regain good academic standing with the college.
